Thank you so much for visiting the Giving Page on St Mary’s website. If you’re new to the church, we are so happy that you are with us and thank you for now exploring how you can give to the ministry and mission of this wonderful, active local church.
At St Mary’s we believe that giving to the church is an expression of our thanks to Jesus for all he has done for us and given us. It is part of our discipleship: helping to maintain the ministry of the church, supporting those in need, and trusting God to continue to provide for us.
It costs approximately £15000 per month to ‘run’ St Mary’s. This is spent on staff salaries, our contribution to the diocesan Common Fund that pays our clergy and provides various parish support functions, our youth and children’s work, outreach and activities within the wider community, and more. We give away 10% of our income to Christian charities in this country and overseas (details of some of our mission partners are at www.wythallchurch.net/about/#mission). Our income is from the giving of church members, together with a refund from HMRC of tax paid under Gift Aid. We do not bid for lottery money nor hold fetes etc.
Most church members give by monthly standing order into the church account, details of which are below. Some use numbered envelopes for cheques or cash, these can be obtained from the Treasurer. We do not pass a collection plate during services, but there is a plate by the entrance door for anyone who wishes to give cash. We also have a card machine available on request.
Members are asked to prayerfully consider their giving at the outset and on a continual basis: ‘Each person should give what they have decided in their heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.’ 2 Corinthians 9 v 7
